Blue2 Passive House Green Building Mixer

About this event

Join us to celebrate the near completion of Blue2, the first certified new construction Passive House in CA.  Blue2 will also be LEED for Homes certified and Green Point Rated.  This shall be a mixer of the USGBC Redwood Empire Chapter, USGBC-Northern California Chapter, Build It Green and Passive House CA.  The architect and builder shall present a short technical overview of what makes this a Passive House, followed by Prudence Ferreira and Kevin Beck, who will discuss the relationship between LEED, Green Point Rated and Passive House.  (Additional guest speakers from BIG and USGBC-CC to be confirmed)

About this project

Blue2 was built by CLAM: Community Land Trust Association of West Marin - a non-profit, grass roots, affordable housing developer.  CLAM’s Blue2 Passive House represents a new paradigm for affordable housing and locks in affordability forever by keeping operational costs low.  These buildings are cost effective, great for the environment, and provide the highest quality indoor air and occupant comfort.

About Passive House

Passive House compliments both LEED and GPR by providing a predictable and reliable path to low-energy and small carbon footprint buildings - not only for houses, but all building types.  Passive House is a performance-based design system used to achieve super low energy buildings.  These buildings essentially have no furnace, and instead heat themselves primarily with saved heat from the occupants and appliances.  The European Union has almost 20,000 of these built, and this standard is already their required building code in many cities.  There are currently just over a dozen built here in the US.  Passive House is almost twice as energy efficient as Energy Star.  All new buildings in Austria (where there is one Passive House for every six people) surpass Energy Star.
